Rock.ing.DOG – Rocking Dog is inspired by popular 3D folding animals while the profile of the dog’s head is a reminiscence of the author’s own dog from his youth. Its strong stylization is supported by gentle ribbing that imparts a peculiar character to the toy, creates its dimension, and at the same time ensures comfortable sitting for rocking movement. Even its assembly can turn into a play for the parent and their child. And when the child grows up the toy can be disassembled and stored for another generations. Rock.ing.DOG is made of 12mm water-resistant birch plywood with brown or white foiled surface.
Story of the Rocking Dog
The concept of the Rocking Dog emerged already in 2006 parallel with a clothes valet Mr.ZAK that is based on the same principle. At that time it was presented as a student project at Designblok in Prague, originally named PhDr.PSVZ, where it immediately gained a great admiration from visitors as well as media attention. Its further development was suspended though, even forgotten, mainly due to expensive technology for a small-lot production at that time. Thus only the clothes valet Mr.ZAK was created in a luxurious premium version in a different material. When I returned to the concept in 2013 to revive it as a present for my daughter I found out that the costs on its production were now much more convenient than a few years ago. So I have decided to bring this project back to life for public production too. In order for the product to be as user friendly as possible and above all safe it was necessary to integrate some parts and add safety features so that the toy could be approved by a certified testing center and the product could be certified as a safe toy.
